Extension Hair Care

Let’s face it Extensions are expensive. In order to protect and lengthen the life of your hair, we recommend the following tips.

  • Brush extensions before taking a shower. While shampooing in shower work from roots down. Do Not bunch hair up and scrub. Vigorous scrubbing isn’t needed. Focus

  • Wash/condition with the recomme in nded products only.  Sulfate-free is always recommended.

When showering:

  1. First wash just top/your hair. Rinse. Do a second wash. Lather your hair at the scalp and allow the shampoo suds to run towards your ends. Do NOT re-apply/lather shampoo on the ends of your hair. The runoff from the shampoo on your head will be enough to cleanse your length without physically “washing” the hair, which can cause your hair to become rougher or more tangled.

  2. After thoroughly rinsing your hair, condition the length of your hair thoroughly. Leave the conditioner on for approximately 5 minutes and rinse thoroughly.

  3. Use a leave-in conditioner. We recommend Davines OI Milk or mini serum. SHAKE THE SPRAY. If you do not shake then the product isn’t mixed and could be separated, you are essentially spraying water on the hair. Spray your hair, from the point of installation to your ends.

  4. Finish styling as normal as recommended

  • Air drying hair is fine, but make sure to blow dry the root/tape area to ensure no moisture is trapping with can cause lifting or mildew

  • When blow drying we recommend drying about 80% with fingers first before using a brush to dry

  • Sleep in low braid or ponytail

  • Sleep on a silk pillow case

  • Brush from the ends working your way up. Securing to root area with the other hand.

  • Brush a few times a day to prevent tangling

  • If curling your extensions, run the extension hair through the curling iron to smooth the hair once or twice before placing curls.  This will give your extensions a more polished look, close the cuticle, and prolong the life of the extension hair.

  • Use a heat protectant like Davines definition mist.

  • When swimming wet hair first and coat with a thick hair mask and wear a loose braid or high bun

  • We have noticed hard water or well water can strip the extension hair of color and nutrients. We recommend the RAINDROPS shower filter

  • Be aware, salt water and chlorine can permanently damage the extension hair and strip it of color

  • No Sunscreen it can turn the extensions a peach color. If you need sunscreen we recommend Jane Iredale Powder-Me sunscreen. Or ask and I can send you which sunscreens won’t cause the peach color.

If you notice any excess tangling or hair shedding, please contact me right away.  They are quick fixes when addressed immediately.
